Open to Cub Scout and Scout BSA Units from all districts
Jamboree-on-the-Air, or JOTA, is the largest Scouting event in the world. JOTA uses amateur radio to link Scouts and hams around the world, around the nation, and in your own community. Scouts of any age can participate, from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA and Venturers. Once at the amateur radio station, the communication typically involves talking on a microphone and listening on the station speakers. Participants typically chat and may exchange information such as name, location, Scout rank, age and hobbies.
The stations you’ll be communicating with can be across town, across the country, or even around the world! The World Scout Bureau reported that the JOTA-JOTI events have had over 1.5 million Scout participants from more than 160 countries. Additional JOTA information can be found on the national JOTA website.
The Munsee District Jamboree-on-the Air will feature several JOTA radio station setups available at the Watchung Reservation Scout Area in Mountainside, New Jersey (adjacent to Trailside Nature Center). The event is open to Cub, Scout and Venture units from all districts. Each Scout will have at least 5-10 minutes to chat with other Scouts at other JOTA locations.
You can join us for just your scheduled radio time, for the whole day, or camp with us for the whole weekend. In addition to the radios, we are offering badges and activities for all ages. For Cubs, there will be knot, compass, pioneering skills, games and more. Scouts BSA will be able to work on Radio and additional merit badges. Hikes will be available to everyone.
Meet and talk to fellow Scouts and Scouters from all over the world during virtual jamboree. Everyone is guaranteed a contact with at least one other person for 5-10 minutes.
Come for the day or camp for the weekend. Jamboree on the air runs 24 hour a day, so camp with us to enjoy some late evening and early morning radio time.
When you are not on the radio, join us for merit badges, hikes, astronomy, pioneering, and games. Open to campers and day-trippers.
